The Protecting Cats in Palm Coast Organization, The Flagler Humane Society and The City of Palm Coast, Florida have demonstrated the power of community unity and cooperation in opening a new feral cat sanctuary. The feral felines were recently relocated to their new home from a variety of areas across Palm Coast. The small haven houses one hundred feral cats from six months to fourteen years. Although it is at capacity - the sanctuary is a success in saving the lives of those ferals who were in danger due to construction and developmental growth in Flagler County. PCPC has been practicing TNR for the past several years. Adoptable kittens and friendly feral adults also found new homes through the efforts of dedicated volunteers and the Flagler Humane Society. PCPC asks for your volunteer assistance with feeding and donating food and general supplies. If you can help please contact the Flagler Humane Society at (386) 445-1814. Ask about spay / neuter programs available at the facility.

Jacksonville, Florida is blessed to have First Coast No More Homeless Pets - FCNMHP, is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. This organization is now working hand-in-hand with the City of Jacksonville, Animal Care and Control, and the Jacksonville Humane Society to help with the spaying and neutering of feral cats. FCNMHP opened a temporary cat clinic in 2008 to handle upwards of 40 cats per day; today their new clinic can handle upwards of 200 spay and neuters daily! They are also offering vaccinations for cats and dogs.
FCNMHP was founded in 2001 when Rick DuCharme, founder and president, developed the SpayJax program in response to a request by the City of Jacksonville for a city funded spay/neuter program. Following SpayJax, SpayNassau was developed along with two other low-cost programs. In 2006, their Trap-Neuter-Return program was developed to offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for feral and stray cats. --www.fcnmhp.org.

Island Cat Feral Rescue, Inc. recommends having a contact plan in place for someone to care for your animals in the event that you are unable to do so. Caregivers should be selected in advance and asked if they will provide care in emergency situations. This is especially important for multiple (and all) cat homes and caregivers for feral colonies. Carrying "In Case of Emergency" contact information in your wallet or purse is one idea. Here in Florida it is possible to have your emergency contact information and selected contact persons listed with your driver's license information on the D.A.V.I.D. database. Other states may have similar programs.
The D.A.V.I.D. (Driver And Vehicle Information Database) is a secured database used by most law enforcement agencies in the State of Florida. Any Florida driver can input their emergency contact information by logging on to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website at www.flhsmv.gov or obtain the link from the website set up on behalf of Tiffany Olsen at www.toinformfamiliesfirst.com. Mrs Olsen, her family and DHSMV are urging all licensed drivers in the State of Florida to input their information so families can be contacted more quickly when a family member is injured or killed in a traffic crash. Do this today!
